Jason started his career at the legendary IP firm of Townsend and Townsend and Crew (now Kilpatrick Townsend). He later joined Maschoff Brennan as a partner. He has represented universities, large companies, and startups worldwide. He has acted as in house counsel for a few technology companies handling intellectual property, contracts, mergers & acquisitions, licensing, and corporate governance matters. He has vast intellectual property experience both domestically and internationally. Jason assists companies with patent protection in foreign locations ranging from China, Japan, and Korea, to Australia, Israel, South Africa, Brazil, Europe and beyond.
Jason also has thriving trademark practice. He manages a portfolio that includes US and foreign applications and registrations. He has successfully negotiated coexistence and consent agreements to settle Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) oppositions and in response to cease and desist letters. Jason represented Dirty Dough Cookies in the famous Utah Cookie Wars for various trademark, trade dress, and trade secret issues and was quoted in the Wall Street Journal discussing this case. He has also been quoted by Sports Illustrated for trademark issues surrounding Utah’s new Hockey Club.
Jason has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics from Utah State University and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to law school, he was the payload manager for a series of experiments that flew aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. Later he received a patent for his graduate research. While working as an associate, he founded two non-profit charter schools in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado: Ben Franklin Academy and Parker Performing Art School, each of which now enroll over 800 students. He currently sits on the board of Eagle harbor Technologies, EHT Ventures, Noviant Technologies, EHT Defense, and Kelvin Thermal Tech.
His pride and joy are his son and three daughters. If he’s not answering his phone, it’s probably because he’s on a ski slope in the mountains outside Salt Lake City, or deep in a slot canyon in southern Utah.
